NORWAY — The passenger in a vehicle who died after it struck a tow truck Friday on Main Street was identified as Robert Patneaude, 59, of Mexico, according to a news release from the Norway Police Department.

Police Chief Robert Federico said a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria owned and operated by Bernard Belskis, 77, of Mexico, was headed south on Main Street (Route 26) and struck the rear end of a flatbed tow truck, which was partially sticking out in the southbound travel lane.

The tow truck, driven by Devon Vance, 25, of Norway and owned by Russell & Sons Towing and Recovery of Paris, was stuck at the bottom of the driveway at 110 Main St. near Marion Avenue, the chief said.

Patneaude died at the scene. Belskis was transported to the hospital for an injury to his hand, Federico said.

The crash was reported about 6:45 p.m. Maine State Police and the Norway Fire Department assisted Norway police.
