Doris D. Richard

MEXICO – Doris D. Richard, 84, of Whitman Street, Mexico, died Thursday Oct. 7, 2021, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Rumford on May 5, 1937, daughter of the late Edmond and Alice (Roy) Blanchard. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Mexico High School class of 1956.

Doris married her true love Joseph Richard on Sept. 5, 1959 and together they settled in Mexico to raise their family. She was known as the cake lady and made many cakes for weddings and all occasions. She was a very devout catholic and prayed often to the Virgin Mary, she also volunteered for many-many hours at St. Theresa’s Church. She was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and loved every minute she spent with family. She enjoyed camping, especially at Sebago Lake, going on shopping trips with her sisters, and was an animal lover.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph E. Richard of Mexico; her three sons, Roger Richard and wife Paula of Mexico, Gary Richard and wife Julia of Hollywood, Md., and Scott Richard of Naples; six grandchildren; and fiv- great grandchildren; her loving sisters Cecile McCleary of Portsmouth N.H., Jeannine Gallant and husband Johnny of Lewiston, Evelyn Bedard and husband Lawrence of Rumford, and Irene Tardif of Auburn.

She was predeceased by her oldest son, David Richard, who succumbed to cancer in 2000.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. at Holy Savior Parish in Rumford. Committal will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford, 207-364-4366.
