Jack Delmont Samson Sr.

LISBON – After a long, wonderful life, Jack Delmont Samson Sr., made his journey home on Oct. 19, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on Sept. 29, 1936, to Charles Samson and Dorothy (Samson) Coombs in Mexico, Maine. He was raised in New Hampshire and Lisbon, Maine, schools. A man of service, he enlisted in the Marines from 1953 to 1957, stationed in many areas around the world including Okinawa, working to rehab and bring Marines home, prepared for life after duty. He cooked aboard ships, and told his grandchildren stories of his days at sea for years after. On Nov. 28, 1959, he married the love of his life, Elsie Louise Chase. They would go on to build their lives in Lisbon Falls, having two children, Jack Samson Jr. and Kelly Samson (Beal). Jack worked in the local school systems, the Gypsom mill, and other local stores. He so much enjoyed working for his nephew, Steve Samson, at First Choice Printing for many years. Jack was an active member of the South Lewiston Baptist Church, a man of devout faith since 1959. He walked with the Lord every day, served as trustee and Head Usher and had of an abundance of hugs and handshakes for everyone walking through the door each Sunday. He enjoyed hunting with his grandson and son and competing with his daughter every year for the biggest cucumbers and the first ripe tomatoes. He would always take a challenge to a cribbage game, consistently skunking those he taught the game years before. His most valued title in life was that of father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He spent countless days field and track side, watching them with immense pride. His happiness and joy was always a direct result of theirs, and he loved being such an active part of their lives. They all would say he was the greatest father, grandfather and great-grandfather, setting the bar for what a man in their lives should be. Jack is joining in heaven his parents, his second father, Arthur (Joe) Coombs, and brothers, Charles (Bud) Samson and Jim Haywood.
