I’ve been going back and forth about Question 1. I decided to vote no.
I wish Gov. Janet Mills negotiated us a better deal, but the power corridor doesn’t look much different than the one that’s been going up to Rumford for decades or ski areas or clear-cutting sites from the forest industries.
I talked to a representative at the Farmington fair, and one of the things I asked was why they didn’t reclaim the land when Maine Yankee shut down. He said they are now planning to use that corridor to send power to the coastal area.
As a Lewiston taxpayer, we could use the revenue from the substation to offset the huge school taxes we pay. I’m furious that the feds butted into our business and fined us thousands of dollars.
