Avis Marion (Wallace) Baird

AUBURN – Avis M. Baird of Auburn, passed away on Oct. 23, 2021.

Avis was born in Newark, Vt. July 25, 1923, the youngest daughter of Porter and Avis Irene (Egleston) Wallace. She was educated in Vermont schools and graduated from Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center, Vt. in the class of 1941.

She married James J. Baird in September 1943 and together they raised two sons, Milton J. Baird and Brian W. Baird. In later years they were divorced.

She worked most of her life in office administration positions. The last 20 years of her career she worked for Land Use Consultants of Portland. Besides her family, her interests included music, travel, and volunteer work where she was active in both her community and church.

She was predeceased by her oldest son, Milton J. Baird, daughter-in-law Judith Baird of Lewiston; her parents; brother Elmon, sister Dorothy, and brother N. Dale Wallace.

She is survived by her son, Brian and daughter-in-law Wendy Baird of Auburn; four grandchildren, Cindy (Baird) Rohrbach and Richard Baird of Las Vegas, Jeffery Baird of Lewiston, and Bethany Baird of Fairfield; and three great-grandsons; also several nieces and nephews.

Per her request there will be no visiting hours or service. Burial will be private.
