AFCI
The Age-Friendly Community has always tried to be attuned to our community – that is, the six-member towns of Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, Hanover, Newry, and Woodstock. What has always stood out, from our surveys, as well as those from Heart & Soul and other community exercises in the past, is that our residents agree that this is a wonderful community in which to live and thrive. We know that our residents value the care that community members show each other and those traditions that have made the Bethel Region a very special place.

One of the institutions that are highly valued is the District Exchange in Bethel – what a treasure! I bet you or your friends have benefitted from it in one way or another. A group of passionate volunteers has kept this service thriving, and currently, they are concerned about finding/keeping a home for it which is centrally located, accessible, and affordable. Can we help them search for solutions?

Health
There‘s lots of talk these days about COVID booster shots. The CDC tells us that boosters – at least 6 months after initial vaccination – are recommended for those at high risk, including those over 65 years old. Many people have already received their Pfizer boosters, and others are awaiting Moderna boosters, which have just been approved. The Bethel Family Health Center suggests that people watch for their availability locally, including at the Bethel Walgreens.
