I ask residents to save our retirement in Jay by voting no on Article 5. Article 5 asks if the town wants to eliminate the guaranteed monthly retirement income for new employees hired after Jan. 1, 2022.
Town employees have contributed into the Maine State Retirement System since 1992. If it’s not broken, why fix it? New employees should have the option to contribute if they want to; it’s their money.
And why do we have to pay upward of $70,000 of taxpayers’ money to get out of a system that’s working? It doesn’t make sense to me. Residents should vote no on Article 5 in Jay.
