The Leeds Historical Society plans to hold an open house and holiday sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the History Center on Route 106 in Leeds Center.

Attendees can see the work the society did renovating its History Center in the last year, while picking up Christmas presents.

The Leeds commemorative pottery and reproductions of the 1858 and 1873 maps will be for sale, as well as notecards featuring paintings of Leeds by Ian Ormon. A number of society publications will be available, including one about Doc Russell, another about the Leeds one room schools, and volume one of the Leeds Anthology — a collection of articles, poems, and stories about the town.

New this year are prints and notecards of paintings by Nancy Brackett. Brackett, a long-time resident of Leeds, started painting at 73 and was often referred to as the “Grandma Moses of Maine,” creating a large number of works depicting both rural Maine and scenes of Portland.

The society has a number of prints of these works, donated by her daughters, Mary Irace and Judy Brackett, and they have given permission for the society to sell them as a fundraiser.

In addition, the society members hope people will join them to commemorate Veterans Day at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Leeds Veterans’ Memorial in Leeds Center, at the corner of Route 106 and Church Hill Road.
