DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again, Paris Public Library will hold a much-needed community drive for knit and crocheted hats and mittens to warm our children’s heads and hands during our long, cold Maine winter. Last year we had a most successful drive thanks to Sun Spots and many generous needle crafters.

We are hoping to meet this need once again for the children in our community, even though we are a month behind last year’s starting date.

On Monday, Nov. 8, we will have free yarn, knitting patterns, and a box to put your handcrafted items in.

Select and request a bag of free yarn from the display at the front desk (the librarian will hand them to you). Then joyfully and zenfully knit children’s hats and mittens. Return them to the Paris Public Library’s Christmas For Kids’ drop box before the end of the second week in December. Please contact the library at 743-6994 for more information or if you have questions.

A sincere thank you for all your skill, time and generosity! — Billie Lou, Paris Public Library

ANSWER: I hope all knitters in the Paris community and beyond will heed the call and come on over.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the Thomas Bakeries brand cranberry bread that was requested in your column Nov. 5, this bread is not being produced this year. Perhaps it will return next year. – No name, Marketing for Thomas Bakeries, Allentown, Pennsylvania

ANSWER: I was able to reach out to Thomas Bakeries and a nice woman from their marketing department returned my call and left the above message. Would anyone in Sun Spots Land be interested in trying their hand at making their own cranberry swirl bread? If so, I will find you a recipe and publish it here.
