PARIS — The Planning Board this week unanimously approved a solar array on Brown Street at the closed landfill at the Norway-Paris waste transfer station.
The 875-kilowatt, ground-mounted panels over the capped landfill will cover 1.87 acres. The cost is estimated at $1.24 million and is expected to be completed next year.
The project was proposed by UGE USA Inc. of New York. The land at the transfer station is owned by Norway, which is leasing it to UGE.
The solar panels will be mounted on concrete pads that will not penetrate the cap on the landfill. The solar array will require no water, no on-sire staff and no parking spaces.
There was no public comment on the project during the hearing held before the final vote.
The project straddles the town line between Paris and Norway.
The town of Norway will need to approve the project before it can proceed.
This is the second solar project Paris has approved in recent weeks. Last month, the Planning Board approved a solar farm on High Street.
