GARDINER — Police are seeking a man who reportedly robbed a Big Apple convenience store at gunpoint last week.

A clerk at the Brunswick Avenue store called police, around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to say she had just been robbed by a man who pointed a gun at her and demanded money.
The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and he fled on foot, appearing to head toward the downtown area, according to Gardiner Police Chief James Toman. The clerk was not injured in the incident.

“The male subject came in under the ruse of buying something, and when the clerk rang it up the suspect brandished a handgun,” Toman said.
Toman said the suspect was described as a white man, between 5-feet, 2-inches and 5-feet, 6-inches tall.
A Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputy responded the night of the incident with a dog to try to track the suspect, but the canine apparently lost the scent in the Water Street area. Toman said the investigation is open and ongoing.
Police asked that anyone who may have seen anything or have information on the incident call their dispatch center at 624-7076, extension 9.
