LEWISTON – Charles L. Castonguay, 74, passed away at home on Nov. 12, 2021, surrounded by his family, following a very short and hard fought battle with an aggressive and very rare degenerative brain disease. He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 10, 1947 to Roland and Jeannette (Vachon) Castonguay.

Charlie was a graduate of the Lewiston High School Class of 1966, and went on to what was then CMVTI to study Industrial Electricity. After his formal education, he worked in the electrical field as a field engineer for over 40 years, while mentoring many young men along the way. Through the years, he worked for GE, ABB, and Allen Bradley among others servicing drives in paper mills from the East coast to the Midwest. Countless lasting friendships were made over those years, and he has stayed connected with many of those friends to this day. It was through the many messages and phone calls received in the past week that we as a family have come to realize the impact Charlie has had on so many people. It is his legacy.

On Aug. 23, 1969, Charlie married Pauline Turgeon, and together they had two children.

In July of this year, Charlie finished his last of many big house projects when he rebuilt his deck with the help of long time friend, Gerry Duchette.

He accepted his devastating diagnosis with grace in October. Even as he was deteriorating rapidly, he was always thinking of unfinished business to complete to make it easier for Pauline after he passed on. With the help of friends close by, he was able to accomplish this.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, three siblings, Doris, Joseph and Normand, and brother-in-law, Bert St Hilaire. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, daughter Cheryl and husband Barry Mullan of Medford, Mass., and son Scott and fiancée, Georgia Slusser, of Spring Arbor, Mich. He is also survived by grandchildren Ronan Mullan, Madison Castonguay and Emily Castonguay, as well as sisters Jeannine St Hilaire and Denise Dennis, and sister-in-law, Connie Turgeon. Also surviving Charlie is his 101-year-old mother-in-law, Anita Turgeon, with whom he had a close relationship. She could not have had a better son-in-law.

Charlie will remain in our hearts.

His family and friends will miss him terribly, but his work is complete here on earth, and he can now troubleshoot electrical issues in heaven.
