DEAR SUN SPOTS: Lewiston Housing Authority is looking for volunteer drivers to pick up groceries and pre-made lunches at local food pantries and deliver them to some of our residents throughout Lewiston. Anyone interested should contact me at 520-4608 or kdavis@lewistonhousing.org.  — Kelly, Lewiston

ANSWER: Here is a way to make a difference in someone’s life. I hope you’ll consider giving some of your time to this volunteer opportunity.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lewiston Public Library is now accepting children’s picture book donations. If you have picture books in decent condition at home that you no longer need, please consider donating them to the library. Please contact Children’s Librarian Sara Turner at 513-3133 to schedule a drop-off. — Sara, Lewiston

ANSWER: This is a wonderful way to support the beautiful Lewiston Public Library. I’d also like to add that books are a holiday gift that never go out of style. If you need ideas for the special people in your life, a librarian will always help you with ideas. And so will I!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some clear glass tumblers that have “cloudy” places on them near the top of the glass. At my daughter’s suggestion I tried 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle, but it only helped a little. I also tried two pods of Cascade Platinum without much success. Does anyone have other suggestions to get rid of the cloudiness? — No name, Greene

ANSWER: Try soaking the glasses in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and warm water for at least 15 minutes then use a microfiber cloth and some elbow grease to polish them up.

Another thing you can try is a commercial lime remover or nail polish remover applied with a soft cloth. Of course you will want to wash and rinse your glassware thoroughly afterwards.

If you have hard water, using a rinse aid, such as Jet Dry, for your dishwasher’s rinse cycle will also help.

Any other suggestions, dear readers?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I don’t usually read the horoscope but I did on Dec. 6 and wondered if it was April Fool’s Day! What is going on? In my Virgo horoscope it said, “Hats are your friends except those who may betray you…” and in Sagittarius it indicates, “Be up front about your pains…” and many others equally as confusing! It almost seems to me like it had been written in another language and that this is a poor translation. What do you think? — No name, Strong

ANSWER: I’m not sure, but when I checked it out it looked fine. The Virgo horoscope read, “Participate in events that will help you get ahead. Pursuing educational opportunities, attending networking functions and interacting with someone who can help you expand your mind or update your skills will pay off. Be a good listener and an honest and loyal friend.”

Sagittarius read, “Be brave and face any problems you encounter head-on. How you respond to others will determine the outcome of a situation that is holding you back. Be upfront regarding your plans, and you’ll feel better about the future.”
