Twin City Thunder coach Dan Hodge wasn’t pleased with his team from the drop of the puck.

Islanders Hockey Club snapped the Thunder’s three-game win streak with a 3-2 victory Friday night at Norway Savings Bank Arena in a USPHL National Collegiate Development Conference game.

Hodge said Thursday’s practice had low energy, which carried over into Friday’s game.

“We were up 2-0, but we didn’t deserve to be up 2-0,” Hodge said. “We didn’t play well, our first shot on net was about (three) minutes into the game and it was a goal. We just didn’t play well, we didn’t execute. I have to give the Islanders credit, they deserved (the win), they outshot us two to one. We just didn’t come ready to play.”

The Islanders (9-13-2, 20 points) had 37 shots on net while the Thunder only had 25.

The Thunder (12-11-1, 25 points) opened the scoring in the first period when forward Trace Norwell scored his eighth goal of the season. Defenseman Lucas Doran and forward Nathan Chickering set the goal up.

Tristan Rand scored his 11th goal of the year to give Twin City a 2-0 lead. Linemates Steven Armstrong and Artem Kazakov had the assists.

Shane Prifrel put the Islanders HC on the board with a minute remaining in the first period.

After neither team scored in the second period, Islanders HC scored twice in a three-minute span in the third. Kaden Ilott tied the game at 2-2 at the 11:22 mark and then Johan Rosenquist scored at the 13:59 mark to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead.

“We were hoping (the goals) would get us going,” Hodge said. “It was 2-1 until the third period and eight minutes left in the third period a deflection off one of our defensemen and beat (goaltender Nick) Bernstein. We turn the puck over on a hard wrap-around and they get a deflection in front and they scored (again).”

William Nepveu made 23 saves for Islanders HC and Bernstein stopped 34 shots for the Thunder.

“Bernstein played well for us. Unfortunately, the guys in front of him didn’t play well,” Hodge said.

The Thunder host the Boston Jr. Bruins on Saturday at the Norway Savings Bank Arena at 7:30 p.m.
