RUMFORD — Week two in the Mountain Valley Rec Basketball League saw a couple of competitive games with Hotel Rumford drawing a bye. The seven established teams hope that they will be able to complete the season despite the current health issues that society and schools are dealing with. The league has to maintain protocols of RSU 10, as all games are played at Mountain Valley High School.

Game one of the day was somewhat of a surprise, as The Cannatopia Runners (0-2) of Wilton/Farmington gave Archies (2-0) all that they could handle, with Archies pulling ahead late and holding off the upstarts, 81-71. Archies was behind 49-31 at halftime. They were led by Kindle Bonsal with 30 points followed by Nate Carson with 18 and Owen Jones with 16. The runners got a big game from Hunter Meeks with 31 points (3 threes) while Brandon Mitchell helped out with 17.

In a battle of the Jay/Livermore area, Horrace Mann Ins (1-1) pulled ahead of a shorthanded Jay team (0-1) late and earned a 77-70 victory. The victors were led by Brett Frey with 21 points (6 threes), Jake Bessey 19 and Jonnah Sautter with 14 points. Jay’s Jake Turner led all scorers with 37 points (7 threes).

The final game was a blowout as Smart Care PT (2-0) used their size and experience to overwhelm The Thunder (0-2), 95-59. Cody St Germain led the charge with 34 points, Meteo Lapointe added 19 with a few nice dunks, Blake Rothwell had 18 and Nick St Germain 12. The Thunder got 16 from Will Bean and 14 from Riley Flynn.
