PITTSFIELD — A 42-year-old man was hurt Monday evening when his car went off Interstate 95 and rolled into a marsh, according to the Maine State Police.
James Tucker of Detroit was traveling north on I-95 at about 5:30 p.m. when his car left the road near mile marker 145, according to Shannon Moss of the Maine Department of Public Safety.
State troopers found Tucker’s car, which had broken through the ice in the marsh as it came to rest on its side, Moss wrote Wednesday in an email.
Troopers shut down one lane of I-95 and were able to get Tucker out of the car by removing its sunroof.
Tucker was taken to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday, according to Moss, but it appeared Tucker was driving home from work and might have suffered a medical event before the crash.
The incident was reported by a motorist who was driving in front of Tucker and saw his car leave the road.
Moss said without the report from the witness, it was likely Tucker would have been trapped inside his car overnight.
