CHARLESTON — A former resident of Lewiston who was convicted of sex-related crimes against children died at Mountain View Correctional Facility early Saturday morning.

Raymond Samson, 70, died  at approximately 1:35 a.m., according to a written statement issued Saturday by the Maine Department of Corrections. Samson’s death was attended by medical personnel. No other details were provided by the department.

Samson was a Lewiston resident until 2006 when he was sentenced to serve 30 years in the Maine Department of Corrections. A jury in the Androscoggin County Superior Court convicted Samson on 18 charges, 16 of them being sex-related charges involving at least half a dozen children.

He was 54 years old when he was sentenced.
