FARMINGTON — The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has hired Justus Hillebrand as a food hub coordinator.

United Way recently received a three-year grant from the Betterment Fund to research food insecurity in Greater Franklin County and implement ways to best meet people’s needs based on the data collected. Hillebrand will lead that effort in a part-time role.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Cologne, Germany, and his doctorate in history from the University of Maine. After moving back and forth between his native Germany and Farmington since 2011, he and his family settled in Farmington in 2020. Apart from his work with United Way, he is founder and director of Digital History Consulting Inc. and a member of the Greater Franklin County Food Council steering committee.

Abigail Moreau from the University of Maine at Farmington has joined the United Way as an intern this semester to fulfill her community health degree requirements. She is a senior at UMF and in her last semester pursuing a double major bachelor’s degree in biology pre-med and community health.
