To coincide with its town’s 201st anniversary, the Canton Historical Society plans to present the debut public screening of the film “Canton, Maine: A Small Town with a Rich History.”

The screening will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the society’s building at 25 Turner St.

Doors open at 1:45 p.m. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The venue is handicap accessible.

The film, which documents the first 200 years of Canton’s history, was produced by the society in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the town’s incorporation in 2021, according to a news release from the society.

Those in attendance at the screening can meet fellow history fans and participate in a discussion about the film led by members of the CHS Collection Committee.

Food available for purchase will include sodas, freshly-popped popcorn, hotdogs and candy. A 50/50 raffle will be held as a fundraiser. The museum will be open, and an exhibit of last year’s bicentennial events will be on display. The Country Store will also be open, where shoppers will find items for sale like DVDs of the film being shown, on sale for $10.

The society is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization devoted to the preservation and celebration of Canton’s heritage and history.
