LIVERMORE FALLS — Three juveniles were charged Sunday after a church garage on Union Street burned, Fire Rescue Chief Michael Booker said Monday.

“The fire was suspicious,” he said.

When firefighters arrived soon after the 4:30 p.m. call, they found the garage was engulfed in flames, Booker said.

The garage belongs to the First Church of Livermore Falls and is next to 27 Union St. Pastor Larry Roix said the property is insured but he was not sure about the garage, Booker said.

The church is about 50 feet away from the garage, Booker said.

“The garage was a total loss,” he said.

State fire investigators Kenneth MacMaster and Andrew Whitney of the Office of State Fire Marshal were on site Sunday.

“They did charge three juveniles,” Booker said.

No information on the charges was immediately available.

About 40 firefighters from Livermore Falls, Jay, Livermore and Wilton responded.

Johnny Castonguay Logging & Trucking of Livermore was called to cut some of the burning trees in danger of falling on other property.

Firefighters cleared the scene in three hours.
