WATERFORD — The driver of a 2006 Infiniti suffered critical injuries Tuesday morning when his vehicle went off Valley Road and struck a tree.

Keith Barboza, 32, of Waterford was partially ejected when the vehicle went off the road, which is also Route 35, and struck a tree about 8 a.m., Chief Deputy James Urquhart of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said.

The initial investigation cited drugs and excessive speed as factors in the crash, he said.

Barboza was taken by LifeFlight of Maine to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland. A spokesman at the medical center said Tuesday night that he was in critical condition.

The Waterford Fire Department, Stoneham Rescue and Pace Ambulance assisted.

The crash remains under investigation.
