After a quiet stretch of weather to end the work week, a messy storm is set to move in Saturday.

Friday should be another pretty good-looking day in Maine. We won’t get as much sun as Thursday, but temperatures will again climb into the 40s.

We’ll be warmest inland thanks to an onshore wind.

It’s looking like we’re on track for a pretty dynamic weekend with multiple weather variables. Most of southern and central Maine should expect heavy rainfall Saturday. About an inch of rain may produce some localized flooding issues.

The higher elevations in the mountains could get over a foot of snow. Colder air will rush in late Saturday, and even coastal zones may experience a round of wet snow toward the very end of the storm. Very light accumulations are expected there.

Areas that get heavy, wet snow, mostly hills and mountains, have the greatest chance for experiencing power outages.

NEED TO KNOW

• If power outages occur, CMP urges customers to call the toll-free outage hotline: 1-800-696-1000. Or you can  report an outage online.

• If you’re going to use a backup generator in a power outage, CMP has generator safety information.

The snow and rain will end Saturday evening, and the wind will pick up out of the northwest. Expect gusts 35 to 45 mph  Saturday night through Sunday.

Winds will diminish late Sunday and that will set us up for good looking start to the week. Most of next week will feature highs in the 40s and 50s. 60s may make an appearance inland before the end of the week.
