“Top 40,” the a cappella quartet well known in the Lewiston-Auburn area, is venturing into new territory on Friday, March 21, when the group travels to Rumford for a concert at the Coffee House at the United Methodist Church. The members of the “Top 40,” two lawyers, a psychologist and a teacher, met while singing in the Androscoggin Chorale and soon discovered their common interest in 50s and 70s doo-wop and “girl group” music. Since their debut in 1989, they expanded their repertoire to include calypso, songs by Elvis and the Beatles, show tunes and always a surprise or two. “Their outstanding voices, energetic and exuberant presentation and evident enjoyment provide an evening to be remembered,” says Ross Swain in making the announcement. In addition to performing for balloonists and statesmen, among others, “Top 40” has organized and hosted a gathering of a cappella groups, the “Battle of the Blends,” for the last three years. Located at 198 Linnell St, in the Virginia section of Rumford, the Coffee House admission is $8 and the performance starts at 7 p.m.
