The Winthrop Maine Historical Society plans to begin its 2022 speakers series with a presentation by current homeowners about some of the oldest houses in town.

The presentation will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center, 107 Main St.

In 1771 Squier Bishop owned a house on the Metcalf Road, and it sheltered the first town meeting held in the newly-incorporated town of Winthrop, according to a news release from the society.

Around 1989 the home was deemed fit for a firefighting exercise and was burned. At the time, the Bishop house was the oldest house in the town.
