Kathleen and Richard Judkins of Norway enter their kitchen April 6 for the first time in more than a month. The couple were moved into a motel to provide volunteers time to renovate and clean the house. The couple were surviving the winter with a broken furnace and by buying firewood by the bundle when Danielle Wadsworth was brought to the house by her mother, Connie Sessions, while delivering wood. The Maine Education Association Benefits Trust program is providing free vision screenings, eye exams and eyewear to more than 5,000 students in Lewiston. “Clear frames are popular this year with kids,” says Stephanie DuBois, director of public relations at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Every student tested who needs eyeglasses can choose his or her frames. A mobile lab set up outside the school creates the prescription glasses.
