ANDOVER — A man and women, traveling on Route 120 near the intersection of East Andover Road and Elm Street, were both seriously injured when their motorcycle crashed into a moose.

According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, the motorcycle was traveling east and being driven by a man, with a female passenger. A moose entered the road from the north and was struck by the motorcycle.

Neither operator nor passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and both were seriously injured.

The crash was reported Friday at 9:21 p.m.

The driver, James Anderson Jr, 30, of Rumford, was transported to Rumford Community Hospital and then taken by Med-Care ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The passenger, Samantha Crockett, 23, of Jay, was taken to the Rumford hospital and then transferred by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The injured moose was not located and the Maine Warden Service was notified of the incident.

Maine State Police and the Andover Fire Department assisted at the crash, which remains under investigation.
