DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are there any nonprofit organizations in need of donations for a yard/garage sale? — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: I’m sure there will be many yard sales popping up over the spring and summer. You may, however, need to deliver your things to the location of the sale.

In the meantime, check out Hidden Treasures, a thrift store at 850 Lisbon St. I often mention this store that supports the effort to help area families who need assistance with basic necessities. It’s a great nonprofit to keep in mind if you are looking to donate gently-used items or as a place to go for great bargains. Volunteer staff will also work with you to pick up your items if necessary.

The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The phone number is 333-1500 if you have any questions or want to double-check on the hours. You can also look up the organization at https://loavesandfisheshiddentreasures.org/.

An Angel’s Wing Inc. (https://www.facebook.com/anangelswing) is another local nonprofit where your items could be resold to help those struggling with substance abuse. Contact them at  241-0624. They have a location at 1567 Lisbon St. in Lewiston and are opening another store at the Auburn Mall that features brand-name clothing and accessories.

In the coming weeks, keep an eye on this column and Community News because nonprofit organizations often send their fundraising requests and announcements to us.

For example, the following announcement contains a request for yard sale items for its upcoming fundraiser in June:

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society will hold its annual plant sale May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the J & O Irish Museum on Main Street (state Route 140) in Hartford.

All perennials are $3 each and larger plants and shrubs are $5 each. There will also be raffle items in the museum.

While you are working in your gardens and finding extra plants that you no longer want or need, we would love to take them off your hands and add them to our sale. If you need help in digging them up, give me a call. All proceeds from any of our fund raisers go toward upkeep and restoration of the museum.

Also mark June 25 on your calendars for our yard sale at the Hartford Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As you are spring cleaning, if you have items that you would like to donate to our sale, please give me a call. We do have storage in the barn at the museum to store your items until the sale.

I can be reached at 224-7147. — Doreen, no town
