DIXFIELD — The Select Board will honor late chairperson Norine Clarke with a plaque dedication on Friday, May 13.
The dedication will take place at 2 p.m. at the town gazebo on Main Street, according to Town Manager Alicia Conn. It will coincide with a 1-3 p.m. open house at the Dixfield Historical Society, where light refreshments will be served.
The ceremony comes one year after the celebration of life was held for Clarke, who died on May 4, 2021, at the age of 81.
The plaque was created with the words, “In memory of Norine H. Clarke: Your countless years of dedication and service to the Town of Dixfield and its people are much appreciated. The Town of Dixfield will forever be thankful for your efforts in bettering the town and the community.”
Selectman Richard Pickett, also the House District 116 representative, said he would also like to present a legislative sentiment about Clarke at that time.
Clarke volunteered her time and efforts to the town for nearly a half century.
Former Town Manager Dustin Starbuck said, “She had been on the board for a long time and had served in other capacities, whether it be on the Planning Board, taking the minutes of the meetings, or doing the Outdoor Market…all those things…And of course, she also worked with her (late) husband on things for the town before. Ralph was quite a force, too.”
Clarke was also a member of the Economic Development Committee and a longtime member of the board of directors for public access channel WVAC.
For a number of years, Clarke had owned and operated Log Cabin Craftworks on Main Street.
