Living with Viola
By Rosena Fung
Eleven-year-old Olivia has just started at a new school. She has caring teachers and eventually makes some new friends, but
unfortunately, she is plagued by a bully- the personification of her anxiety, a shadowy, cruel version of herself she calls Viola. Whenever something good happens to Olivia, Viola is right there to remind her of all her worries.
Living with Viola is a graphic novel with bold linework and vibrant colors that is based on the author’s own experiences. Olivia’s story will feel familiar to anyone who grew up or is growing up with an anxiety disorder. Books like this are important for young readers to understand themselves and to understand others.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
