AUBURN — Kamden Masselli hit two doubles and a single and Edward Little broke a tie with a four-run third inning in a 7-2 KVAC baseball win against Mt. Ararat on Saturday at Austin Field.

Drew Smith struck out 11 in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. Pat Anthoine scored twice and drove in two runs for the Red Eddies (6-7).

Carson Taylor hit a double and pitched the first three innings for the Eagles (8-4). Shea Farrell pitched the next three innings and had a pair of hits, including a double.

WELLS 2, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Brayden Fazzina hit a two-out RBI triple in the second inning, then scored on an error as the Warriors (5-7) built a 2-0 lead and held off the Patriots (4-9) at Wells.

Wells pitcher Devin Brown gave up three hits and no earned runs over six innings, walking two and striking out three. Zach Carpenter struck out two for the save.

Gray-New Gloucester’s Ian Libby allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out four.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
EDWARD LITTLE 6, MT. ARARAT 0: The Red Eddies (6-7) shut out the Eagles (3-9) in Auburn.

Leah Thibodeau hit an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI double in the second inning for Edward Little. Alexis Kelsea had two hits and scored twice, and Madisyn Scott pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Sydney Stewart had both hits for Mt. Ararat, while Megan Reed struck out five from the circle.

WELLS 13, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 3: Kylie Corbett and Kayla Haken each hit a two-run single in the first inning, starting the Warriors (4-8) on their way to a win over the Patriots in Gray.

Wells also got RBI triples from Delani Brown, Savannah Tardiff and Jayden Pelletier.

Skye Chandler staked Gray-New Gloucester to an early lead with a two-run double in the top of the first.

BOYS LACROSSE
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 12, OAK HILL/MONMOUTH/LISBON 11, OT: Brayden Warde scored four goals, including the winner in overtime, as the Panthers (8-2) defeated Oak Hill/Monmouth/Lisbon (7-2) in Wales.

NYA also got four goals from Chas Rohde.

Lukas Bergeron paced Oak Hill/Monmouth/Lisbon with four goals, Travis Caron had two goals and an assist, and Tiger Hopkins scored a goal and notched three assists.

COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD
BATES’ DUO INVITED TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Elise Lambert and Liam Byrne will represent Bates College at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this month in Geneva, Ohio.

Lambert is seeded 17th in the 800-meter run heading into the prelims on Friday, May 27. Her season-best time of 2:11.94 came at the MIT Final Qualifier. The top eight runners from the final on Saturday, May 28, will receive team points and All-America honors.

Lambert is a four-time All-American and will be competing in her fifth NCAA Championship. The senior finished in fifth in the women’s 800-meter final at the 2021 outdoor championship.

Byrne is seeded 18th in the discus with a career-best of 50.34 meters, and 18th in the hammer throw (55.71). Byrne will compete in the discus on Thursday and the hammer throw on Saturday. It will be the junior’s first trip to the NCAA championship.
