TURNER — Directors of Maine School Administrative District 52 have scheduled emergency meetings Tuesday and Thursday to discuss and adopt a new proposed budget.

Both will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Leavitt Area High School and livestreamed on MSAD 52’s YouTube channel.

The $30.3 million spending plan for Greene, Leeds and Turner schools failed 146-93 in a districtwide vote Thursday.

The proposal was a 7% increase from this fiscal year’s $28.3 million, which officials primarily attributed to rising operation and salary costs. It would have meant a 4.5% increase in Leeds’ assessment; a 3.18% increase in Greene’s assessment, and a 1.92% increase in Turner’s assessment.

A second districtwide meeting and vote is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 9 in the high school auditorium. If approved, the budget would go to a final vote June 14 at town polling stations.
