The seventh annual Norway Family Fishing Festival is planned from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Butters Park in Norway.
This event is a family educational day to teach children younger than 16 how to fish; it is not a competition, according to a news release from the Norway Parks & Recreation Department.
Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. No adult fishing is allowed in this area until Wednesday, June 15.
Participants can register with the Norway Parks & Recreation Department. For those who do not have a fishing pole, one will be provided to borrow for the event. Those who are 15 or younger and a Maine resident can enter a raffle to win the Stuart B. Cummings Life Time Fishing License Award. Volunteers will be on site to help teach how to fish and bait a hook.
The travel lane on Water Street going from Pikes Hill to Main Street will be closed to thru traffic from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Water Street parking lot is available for festival participants.
This event is a collaborative effort of the Norway Parks & Recreation Department, Mollyockett Trout Unlimited, Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association, Lake Thompson Fish & Game and Healthy Oxford Hills.
