MECHANIC FALLS — Police Chief Jeff Goss introduced the Town Council to the five new members of the Police Department on Monday night.

Last summer, Goss found himself as the lone member of the department.

“Two have left the state, two have left for other departments and one just left all together … all of this has basically transpired since June. As of today, it’s just me,” he said at the time.

On Monday he told councilors, “It’s been a long road. It’s a good outcome. I’m extremely happy.”

Town Manager Vic Hodgkins said, “I cannot imagine a better success story for the town of Mechanic Falls.

“Because of the actions of this council, because of the actions of the chief of police, the sergeant and all of these officers here this evening were willing to step up and to protect the town … I think the town of Mechanic Falls owes all these gentlemen a great, big thank you,” Hodgkins said.

Goss said Sgt. Paul Schroeder was huge in recruiting other officers, once he came aboard in the late autumn.

Three officers still have to complete training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, which should happen in less than a year, Goss said.

In related matters, the council approved a new three-year police contract and a five-year agreement with LensLock for new body and cruiser cameras.
