U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and her husband are putting their Bangor home that has been the site of recent protests on the market.

The 4,250-square-foot house on West Broadway was built in 1909, and has an asking price of $727,000.

The Republican senator, who is 69, told the Press Herald through her office that she and her husband are seeking a smaller home with more land for their dog to play. The real estate listing was first reported by the Bangor Daily News.

“Senator Collins, her husband, Tom Daffron, and their black lab, Pepper, love their home on West Broadway in Bangor. Over the years, they have made a number of improvements to the beautiful historic house,” Collins’ office said via email. “For their next home, they are looking for something in the Bangor area that is slightly smaller – and preferably one story – with more land for Pepper to run and play.”

Collins wouldn’t be without a Maine home if the property sells. She also has a “camp” on Cold Stream Pond, along with a home-away-from home in Washington, D.C.

Collins and Daffron bought the four-bedroom Bangor home in 2013, a year after they married. The previous owner was the stepmother of Bangor Daily News Publisher Richard Warren.

It has been the site of several protests over the years. And Daffron once opened a letter that claimed to contain ricin, prompting a full response from first responders in hazmat suits.

The house is across the street from the former home of horror writer Stephen King and his wife, Tabitha King. The King mansion is now home to their charitable foundation and archives.
