DEAR SUN SPOTS: Have any Sun Spots readers ever heard of the Hi-Fi Club dances held Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. from 1960-1962 on the third floor of Lewiston City Hall where the Pal Hop was held on Friday night? The DJ was Frank Sweeney from the radio station WLAM.

It seems anyone I ask does not remember. I met my late husband there at a dance in February 1960. On Friday and Saturday nights we would go roller-skating at the Rollerdrome in New Auburn. Those were the best days. I read Sun Spots every day and really enjoy it. — Teri, no town

ANSWER: Those were the days! Those of a “certain age” will hopefully remember these good times and write to share their experiences and stories. I’m looking forward to it!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have the name(s) of a mason in your Rolodex to repair my brick steps? A few need to be replaced and the mortar between the bricks needs fixing. Also, I am looking for someone to change my bathtub to an accessible shower.

Your column is one of the reasons to subscribe to the newspaper. Thank you. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Masons seem to be hard to come by these days but here are the names I have: Giroux & Family Masonry (https://www.girouxfamilymasonry.com/, 577-8117); Greenwood Masonry (https://greenwood-masonry.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral, 245-2303); and All Season Brick & Stone (http://allseasonbrick.com/, 721-0043).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have Convatec urostomy supplies, including many boxes of pouches that are not precut and other associated products. Please call 783-3935. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Thank you for offering these supplies. If no one contacts you, you may want to look into donating them to the medical provider where they came from.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Court Street (Goff Hill) and Center Street in Auburn are in bad need of repair. They are heavily traveled and the city’s main arteries. Couldn’t American Rescue Plan Act monies be utilized to repair these streets? If not, isn’t there other funding available in the budget? — No name, no town

ANSWER: The best thing you can do is let the city know of your concerns. There is a great way to send an email using the form here: https://www.auburnmaine.gov/ReportIt.

You can check to see what projects are already in progress here: https://www.auburnmaine.gov/pages/government/construction-projects.

Of course, you can also call the city at 333-6601 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to speak with someone if you prefer. If you get voicemail, leave a detailed message and a callback number. Your city government officials and staff are there to assist you so don’t hesitate to reach out with concerns and/or kudos any time.
