POLAND — The Select Board on Tuesday night approved licensing for an adult use marijuana cultivation facility to Maine Grown at 90 Bailey Hill Road.

Owner Nick Morton told the board that bleak economic conditions in the medicinal marijuana market has forced him to shift gears. He said he will only be supplying his recreational adult shop at 301 Main St. in Auburn from the Poland establishment.

Morton has obtained all necessary state authorization and has been issued a certificate of occupancy from the town Code Enforcement Officer Scott Neal.

Town Manager Matt Garside requested and received authorization from the board for a change order of $26,157.90 to the Route 26 sewer project. He said he contacted Wright Pierce, engineers of the project, to review the change order from the contractor Pratt and Sons before formally asking for the increase.

The money will come from the bond that financed the project.

Garside also received an endorsement from the Select Board to institute a Community Resilience Partnership to form community workshops to prioritize projects which will “reduce greenhouse gas emissions in extreme weather and climate change impacts.”

He said grant money would be available to improve energy efficiency in town buildings, if such a workshop can be established in town.

Garside also lauded the efforts of seventh graders from Bruce M. Whittier Middle School and Scout Troop 139 who picked up trash and improved the appearance at the Transfer Station Facility.
