John Gendron, in his guest column (“In defense of my vision to boost affordable housing,” July 23), laments that Auburn citizens opposed to lakeside development have no alternative.

But I do. I ask people to consider my vision, my modest proposal.

Mr. Gendron can develop his in-town backyard of 32-plus acres, with the zoning quota of 14 houses per acre that amounts to 448 new houses.

Mayor Jason Levesque can develop his backyard of 13 acres and add 182 more units for a grand total of 630 new homes, all from two house lots.

Mr. Gendron and Mr. Levesque would fulfill their altruistic dreams of providing affordable housing (and spare the lake and traditional neighborhoods) just by saying, “Yes in Our Backyards.”
