Friday

This spring, there was a large, loose dog in Bryant Pond who was very good at evading the folks who were trying to help him. Everyone who saw him wanted to catch him. They would offer cookies but he would trust no one. He was finally secured and brought to Responsible Pet Care. We named him Friday. His entire body was covered in ticks and he was very thin and dehydrated. Friday is truly a gentle giant, but the tragic events that he has gone through before and during the time when he was on the run have left scars on this sweet boy’s mind and body. He has now been at the shelter for about six weeks and still will trust only those who have cared for him daily here at the shelter. We very much want Friday to find his forever home, but potential adopters who come for one meeting just do not get to see the side of Friday that our staff knows and loves.

For this reason, the person who will win Friday’s heart and become his adopter must be willing to come to the shelter, almost daily for a time, to bond with him and earn his trust. That will include just sitting, getting to know him by your presence, and eventually going for walks. Also, due to his history of being on the run, his new home will need to have a secure, fenced yard, six feet high. Friday is a Great Pyrenees mix, approximately one-year-old and weighing in at 100 pounds. Friday seems to love other dogs.

Once you earn his trust, Friday will be the companion who has been missing from your life. His sweet and gentle demeanor, and the fact that he seems like an ‘old soul’, will make someone who can take the time to get to know him very lucky. Folks who are interested in meeting Friday should fill out our adoption application at www.responsiblepetcare.org/dogs.
