Season outlook: Rick Kramer is entering his first year as Edward Little’s head coach and, while he said the team is “rebuilding,” the Red Eddies are making improvements. The Eddies bring back Caden Garry, a Sun Journal All-Region second-team player last year, as well as many other upperclassmen. 

LEAVITT HORNETS

Season outlook: Leavitt, which lost in the final seconds of the Class C South final against Cape Elizabeth, returns key players like Brett Coburn, Dayton Calder, Sawyer Hathaway and quarterback Noah Carpenter. The Hornets will have to retool the offensive line with the losses of Reeve Twitchell and Jack Boutaugh, but Leavitt has depth at a lot of positions and veteran play at others. “If we can get consistent and have the right mindset, we could go pretty far,” coach Mike Hathaway said.

LEWISTON BLUE DEVILS
Coach: Jason Versey (first year)
Class: A
Last year’s results: 2-7
Returning athletes: Seniors — Farid Muhammad-Aceto, Eli Bigelow, Jaden Maynard, Doc Rogers, Aiden Pickard, Wyatt Vallee, Will Parker; Juniors — Adam Benson, JoJo Mukendi, Jayden Brown, Kenny Foss, Tafari Carson-James; Sophomores — Jeffrey Randall, Joe Dube.
Key losses: Kameron Caron, Donovan Jackson, Jacob Dubois, Dalton Lajoie, Ethan Campbell, Matt Dube, Chase McKeen, Elijah Brito, Cody Hensler, Skylar Martel.
Promising newcomers: Gage Parent, Adam Benson, Ryker Paradis, Deion Jackson, Lonnie Thomas, Tadon Rogers, Braiden Blais.
Season outlook: Lewiston first-year coach Jason Versey said that the Blue Devils are “coming off the best offseason strength and conditioning program it has seen in years.” Versey spotlighted Farid Muhammad-Aceto, Eli Bigelow, Jaden Maynard and Joe Dube as players to watch this season. Dube was a Sun Journal All-Region first-team defense selection in 2021. 

LISBON GREYHOUNDS
Coach: Chris Kates (sixth year)
Class: D
Last year’s results: 3-4, reached Class D quarterfinals.
Returning athletes: Seniors — Ethan Roberts (WR/LB), Colby Levasseur (RB/LB), Canaan Cameron (TE/DL), Ethan Berube (OL/DL), Connor Turcotte (LB/RB), Landon Dewildt (OL/DL); Juniors — Emmett Mooney (WR/DB), Jimmy Fitzsimmons (QB/DB).
Key losses: Chanse Versey (OL/DL), Mason Booker (WR/DB), Nick Blair (RB)
Promising newcomers: Senior — Josh Carter (RB/LB); Junior — Adam Hayes (DB/WR); Sophomore — Demetrius Clark (OL/DL).
Season outlook: For the first time, Lisbon will have lights at its home field will be able to play night games on Friday nights. On the field, Lisbon brings back many seniors, including Canaan Cameron and Colby Levasseur, both Sun Journal All-Region second-team players a year ago. 

MT. BLUE COUGARS
Coach: Matt Friedman (first year)
Class: B North

Returning athletes: Seniors — Jayden Meader (QB), Hayden Durrell (OL), Dylan Farmer (C), Caleb Hutchinson (S), Isaac Wrigley (WR), Nathaniel Hutchins (OL), Tyleek Blauvelt (OL), Eben Barker (CB), Kole Couture (CB), Bradford Couture (DT); Juniors — Charles Stevens (TE), Alex Rackliff (LB).
Key losses: Evan Downing, Haisen Foster, Mason Biello.
Promising newcomers: Juniors — Noah Prescott (TE), Cole McCourt (DE), Antonio Laliberte (WR), Klay Dunning (S); Sophomores — Dane Cousineau (LB), Stephen Galkowski (S), Tucker Bates (DL); Freshman — Joey Hayden (DL).
Season outlook: Matt Friedman, in his first year as Mt. Blue head coach after previously serving as an assistant, said the Cougars plan to have unique starters at every position on offense and defense, with no players playing both sides. Quarterback Jayden Meader returns as well as many other upperclassmen for a Mt. Blue squad that is looking to improve its one-win season a year ago. 

OAK HILL RAIDERS

Season outlook: Oak Hill is retooling this season after losing a litany of last year’s seniors to graduation. A veteran offensive line and multiple running backs will help the Raiders’ offense go. Maverick Swan got a lot of reps last year at running back and defensive back and is expected to be an important piece for Oak Hill in 2022.

OXFORD HILLS VIKINGS
Coach: Mark Soehren (12th year)
Class: A
Last year’s results: 8-2, reached state final.
Returning athletes: Seniors — Elias Soehren, Lincoln Merrill, Zach Louvat, Tanner Bickford, Connor Cram, Trey Morrison; Juniors — Teigan Pelletier, Jake Carson, Holden Shaw, Alex Bartlett.
Key losses: Isaiah Oufiero, Wyatt Knightly, Trevor Danforth, Dakota Grasse, Matt Doucette, Dylan Worster, Ryan Metcalf.
Promising newcomers: Seniors — Lucas Clark, Mekhi Hill, Grayson Foster; Juniors — Nick Binette, Hunter Tardiff, Brady Truman; Sophomore — Eli LaVerdierre.
Season outlook: Eli Soehren is returning to quarterback the Vikings, who have high hopes after losing in the Class A title game to Thornton Academy a year ago. Lincoln Merrill, Tanner Bickford and Teigan Pelletier are among players returning that should help the Vikings again compete for the state championship. 

POLAND KNIGHTS

Season outlook: Coach Gus LeBlanc is excited about Poland’s numbers, depth and experience this fall. The team returns three running backs, quarterback Lagan O’Driscoll, and three linemen on the offense. On defense, the Knights have a multitude of upperclassmen. LeBlanc said the team will be “considerably improved.”

WINTHROP/MONMOUTH/HALL-DALE RAMBLERS
Coach: Dave St. Hilaire (ninth year)
Class: D
Last year’s results: 7-2, reached state final.

Season outlook: Dom Trott rushed for more than 800 yards a season ago and scored 16 touchdowns for the Ramblers, who lost in the Class D state title game a year ago. Trott was also the Class D defensive player of the year. The Ramblers return many other starters from a year ago, including eight starters on the defensive side.
