PERU — Voters will decide Tuesday whether to take up to $15,000 from surplus to cover the entire cost of grinding and paving the Town Office parking lot.

The special town meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office, 26 Main St.

Chairwoman Gail Belyea said a $46,000 job became a $61,000 job because quotes from Spencer Paving and Manzer Earthworks were higher than anticipated.

In June, voters approved appropriating $46,000 to make access to the Town Office easier for the public by extending the parking area.

Road Commissioner Brad Hutchings said he has no idea if a contractor will be available to do the work this year.

Selectmen will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Town Office to discuss setting the tax rate.
