BRIDGTON — The Rufus Porter Museum of Art and Ingenuity, 121 Main St., plans to open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticket holders on Saturday, Sept 17, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 18th annual Museum Day.

Museum Day is a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based museums, according to a news release from the museum.

The event allows museums, zoos and cultural centers from all 50 states to emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian’s facilities, which offer free admission every day. This year’s event is sponsored by Quaker Oats and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two to the Rufus Porter Museum on Sept. 17. One ticket is permitted per email address.

Museum Day tickets will be available online at smithsonianmag.com.
