AUBURN – Elizabeth “Betty” Hayes left this world on the morning of her 92nd birthday, Sept. 3, 2022.She was born Elizabeth Jayne Tamminen in Greenwood Maine, daughter of Nestor and Katri (Kahkonen) Tamminen.She graduated from West Paris High School (1948) and married Ardell Hayes in 1950, they just celebrated their 72nd anniversary in June.She began her healthcare career as a dental assistant and then studied at CMVTI and became an LPN. She worked as an OR nurse at CMMC and then became the Manager of Central Supply. She retired from CMMC in 1993 and she and Dell moved to Norway.Over the span of their marriage, they owned homes in Auburn and Norway and moved to Schooner Estates in 2016, where Dell still resides. Betty had strong ties to the Oxford Hills area and served as the North Norway local correspondent for the Advertiser for many years. She was active in the Oxford Hills AARP chapter. And she and Dell went on 21 Tauck tours all around the USA, most memorably to Hawaii three times, and once to Europe.Betty is survived by her husband, Ardell (Dell), her sister Patricia Verrill and her sister Mary and her husband Frank Perham, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to drop in for a Celebration of Life downstairs at the West Paris Universalist Church, 208 Main Street West Paris on Sunday October 2nd from 1 – 3.
