Marie L. Marchetti

SOUTH PORTLAND – Marie L. Marchetti, 94, of Jay, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday July 25, 2022, at Pinnacle in South Portland.

She was born on June 1, 1928, in Jay, a daughter of John and Eva (Ouellette) Pineau. She received her education in Livermore Falls schools and on Nov. 12, 1942, married Louis Marchetti in the undercroft of St. Rose of Lima Church, because of the fire that had destroyed the sanctuary. He predeceased her on Nov. 15, 1991. A devoted homemaker, wife and mother and also worked outside of the home at Norwock Shoe and later at G. H. Bass Shoe Co. as a treer. She enjoyed serving as a Brownie Troop leader, even after her daughter, Linda, became a Girl Scout. Her late husband was a Navy veteran and had been a member of the Frank L. Mitchel VFW Post #3335 of Jay, of which she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She also enjoyed her membership in a local bowling league.

She was well known for her hobby of knitting; her creations were perfectly and meticulously cared for. Marie is loved by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Nelson (Ed) of Buxton; her grandson, Darryl Nelson of Pocatello, Idaho; a granddaughter, Nicole Nelson and her partner, Dave Wentz and their two children, Jace and Kyler Wentz of Jupiter FL; and a brother and sister-in-law, Martin (Barbara) Pineau of Mass. Marie is also predeceased by her step mother Aurora Pineau; step brothers, Roger and Tony Pineau; half brother, Dennis Pineau and step brothers, Eugene and Bernard Roy.

Public memorial graveside services will be held Friday, September 16 at 10 am at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Cremation and memorial graveside services are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Centers of Jay and Farmington.
