POLAND — Two women were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries following a head-on collision Friday night on Main Street.

At 8:54 p.m., Poland Fire Rescue received a report of a two-vehicle crash with at least one person trapped. Each vehicle contained two passengers, said Chief Tom Printup. The other two passengers were men.

One woman was trapped in the wreckage and was extricated from her vehicle and transported to Central Maine Medical Center. The other woman was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

It appears that one vehicle was trying to turn onto Main Street at the time of the crash. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors at this time, said Printup.
