DEAR SUN SPOTS: You’re so helpful in getting information and connecting people. I’m involved with the Lewiston Auburn Senior College here at USM LAC and it would be a great help with the work I do if I could use Google Docs to share documents with others in the group. I seem to have a mental block about this software and that stops me from using it. I also would like to learn how to use some of the features in Adobe Acrobat.

I’m looking for someone who could work with me, either in person or online, to get me past these stumbling blocks. I can pay someone, if needed, to obtain this knowledge. ANSWER: Have you checked in with the University of Southern Maine campus or Central Maine Community College about classes, or perhaps you could reach out to a student enrolled at one of these schools who would share their knowledge with you at a reasonable cost.

Another idea that comes to mind is to contact one of the local high schools and ask if there’s a student who knows these software programs and would be willing to meet with you a few times. I don’t think it would take you long at all to get the hang of Google Docs and Adobe Acrobat. If you do meet with someone, I would suggest a public place, like the library or a cafe.

Speaking of libraries, there may be a staff member there who helps patrons and community members navigate their computers and all the software programs. The Lewiston Public Library also has self-guided computer tutorials through LibraryLA.org (http://libraryla.org/).

If you’re OK with online tutorials, there are some great options on YouTube. This is an example of Google Docs for Beginners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6V_h43-BIY.

For others, just go to YouTube and put “Google Doc Tutorials” in the search bar. You’ll be all set with how-to’s that you can follow at your own pace. Most software programs can be learned this way. This is great for beginners and won’t cost you anything.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What is being built in the Auburn Shaw’s parking lot near Center Street? — Fred, no town

ANSWER: Convenient MD Urgent Care will occupy the building. According to The Buzz column posted Sept. 9 on the Sun Journal website, ConvenientMD has more than 25 locations in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. The Auburn location at 600 Center St. will be the ninth in Maine.

The company says its clinics are open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and accept most insurance. The clinics provide a broad range of basic medical care, including minor emergencies, and that its facilities are equipped to perform X-rays, lab tests on-site, EKGs and IV fluids. The clinics also offer immunizations, preventive care and on-site prescription services.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again, I’m looking for my favorite store-bought cookie, Dare brand chocolate fudge sandwich cookies. I haven’t been able to find them for a while. Cynthia, no town

ANSWER: I like those, too! I haven’t looked in quite a long time, but I used to always find them at Reny’s in Topsham. Surely, they must be in other stores though. Readers, if you see these cookies in your travels, please let us know!
