DEAR SUN SPOTS: In reading Sun Spots on Oct. 6, Nancy from Auburn thanked the person who turned in her wallet at the Auburn Shaw’s. I’m glad for her. I wish the person who found my prescription eye glasses would turn them in as they were my mother’s. I think I misplaced them at Walmart a few weeks ago. The color of the frames is rose-cranberry and the lenses are on the narrow side, not big like some styles.

It saddens me to think some people don’t turn in items found, but on the other hand, it pleases me when others do the honest thing and turn the item in.

If anyone has found my eye glasses and wants to return them to me, please call 784-1052.

Ms. Sun Spots, I enjoy reading your column. You’ve helped so many people. Thank you. — Shirley, Lewiston

ANSWER: I hope your special eye glasses are returned to you very soon. I misplaced a special pair of orange polka dot-framed reading glasses recently at a local restaurant. My sister had given them to me as a funny little joke, but I loved them and wore them often. I keep hoping they’ll turn up and keep checking in with the restaurant.

At Sun Spots, we’ve had good luck with helping people find their lost items. Don’t give up just yet!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I recently had new carpet installed and have a lot of extra carpet that I’d like to turn into rugs and runners. Does anyone know where to get carpet bound? I’d also be interested to hear about other creative uses for extra carpet! — No name, Greene

ANSWER: If you bought your carpet and it was professionally installed, that business can help you with this project. If you purchased the carpet from a discount store and installed it yourself, Modern Rug (https://www.modernerugcleaning.com/) at 645 Main St. in Gorham is the place to contact at 854-5311.

If you’re feeling up to it and want to save money, you can easily create runners and area rugs yourself. Search YouTube videos for a list of supplies and DIY how-tos.

Carpet scraps can be used to reupholster chairs and footstools, headboards, make kitty scratching posts and cat condos, protective floor mats for your vehicle (including the trunk or back storage area, a knee pad for exercising and gardening, and more. Check out those YouTube videos for more ideas — there’s quite a few.
