DEAR SUN SPOTS: My mother, Dorothy Hoffman Hunter, is celebrating her 100th birthday Nov. 22. On Nov. 19, we will have a small family celebration to honor her.

For 25 years she taught in the Auburn school system, with the last 20 at the East Auburn Community School. We thought it would be nice if her neighbors, friends and former students would send a card congratulating her. She would love to hear from all of you.

Cards can be sent to Bill Hunter, 472 Pleasant Pond Road, Turner, ME 04282 and we will give them to her on the 19th. Thank you in advance for taking the time to write her a note. — Bill, Turner

ANSWER: I love this so much. What a beautiful tribute to your dear mother who must have touched so many lives with her teaching. I’m very excited for her.

I have a dear friend who just turned 100 and it really is a big deal! She looked fabulous in her tiara! The cards she received are strung on ribbons throughout her home and she loves reading them over and over. Let us know how it all goes for your mom, and tell her congratulations from Sun Spots!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing in reply to the request by Larry for a knit Christmas stocking for his grandson as published in the Oct. 28 Sun Spots.

Please add me to your Rolodex for this service. I have knit several of these stockings as well as other items such as hats (with or without pompoms), scarves, stockings with no seams to wear in your boots, and fingerless gloves. I can be reached at 333-2763 or at veilleja@gmail.com.  Photos are provided upon request. — Jackie, no town

ANSWER: I knew we’d find someone to help Larry with this very special request!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Buttons for Babes ladies are very busy getting ready for craft fairs and the holidays. They are looking to see if you have time to join them in making button bracelets. It’s a nice social time two days a month and you can even make bracelets at home. The money raised from the bracelets goes toward helping children in need. Please contact Fern at 320-1940 or me at 778-4726 for more information. — Shannon, no town

ANSWER: I love this idea. I hope you get a fabulous response.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are looking for someone to repair or replace a skylight because it leaks when it rains and we would like it to be repaired before the snow flies. Do you have a list of semiretired or working carpenters that would be available for us? There is a need for small and medium jobs for us older people who want to stay in our homes as long as possible. Help! I can be contacted at 783-1534. — No name, no town

ANSWER: Leaking skylights are not fun! In the Rolodex, I have Straight Line Roofing & Siding Inc.
