A Maine Medical Center campus in Scarborough was locked down for about an hour and a half Tuesday morning while police investigated a threat made against employees.
The Scarborough Police Department received a report from a representative of the Maine Medical Neurosurgery and Spine facility around 10 a.m., according to a statement from police, regarding “vague but concerning statements made against employees.”
The center closed its locations at 92 and 96 Campus Drive, as well as 300 Professional Drive, “out of an abundance of caution” so police could investigate the threat. The hospital reopened before noon.
Scarborough Police say they are still investigating what happened with help from Maine Medical Center’s security staff.
Caroline Cornish, spokesperson for Maine Medical Partners, said in an email Tuesday that the center appreciates employees’ “quick action” in reporting the threats to police.
“We also want to thank our patients and care team members for their patience and understanding as our security team and the police worked to ensure their safety,” Cornish said.
