COLUMBUS, Ohio — Miyan Williams rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown before leaving with an injury late in the first half, C.J Stroud threw five TD passes and No. 2 Ohio State buried Indiana 56-14 on Saturday.
Williams went down awkwardly on his right ankle and had to be helped to a cart and taken to the locker room with 2:17 left in the half. That came after the Buckeyes (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) had taken a 28-7 over the Hoosiers (3-7, 1-6) on Williams’ 48-yard scoring run.
Williams has carried the load of the Ohio State running game the last two games with TreVeyon Henderson out with injury. Ohio State hasn’t disclosed a timetable for Henderson’s return but could certainly run into some difficulty if both experienced backs are still on the shelf for the showdown with No. 3 Michigan in two weeks.
(1) GEORGIA 45, MISSISSIPPI STATE 19: Stetson Bennett threw for three touchdowns and Georgia (10-0, 7-0 SEC) overcame a first-half surge by Mississippi State (6-4, 3-4) for a win in Starkville, Mississippi.
With the victory, the East Division champion Bulldogs secured a spot in the SEC Championship game. Georgia will face SEC West champ LSU in Atlanta on Dec. 3
It was a dominating effort by the Bulldogs, who put up 468 yards of offense. Bennett led the way, going 25 for 37 for 289 yards with two interceptions. Georgia also rushed for 179 yards.
MSU struggled to consistently produce against Georgia on the offensive side. Will Rogers went 29 for 51 and threw for 263 yards and a touchdown. Mississippi State rushed for just 47 yards on 15 carries. Rufus Harvey led MSU with six catches for 66 yards and a score.
(3) MICHIGAN 34, NEBRASKA 3: Blake Corum ran for 162 yards and a touchdown, helping the Wolverines (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) stay undefeated with a win over the Cornhuskiers (3-7, 2-5) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Wolverines have won their first 10 games for the first time since 2006, when they closed the regular season as the second-ranked team with a loss to rival and top-ranked Ohio State.
In two weeks, Michigan will play the Buckeyes on the road with the Big Ten East Division title and likely spot in the College Football Playoff at stake.
Michigan was in control from the start against the Cornhuskers and opened with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that Corum capped with a 2-yard run for his 18th touchdown.
(5) TENNESSEE 66, MISSOURI 24: Hendon Hooker threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score to lead the Volunteers (9-1, 5-1 SEC) to a victory over the Tigers (4-6, 2-5) in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Volunteers were impressive offensively but had trouble containing a Missouri attack that has struggled this season. The Tigers rushed for 173 yards, more than any other team against Tennessee this year.
(7) LSU 13, ARKANSAS 10: Josh Williams ran for 122 yards and a touchdown, Harold Perkins Jr. had four sacks and two forced fumbles and the defense as the Tigers (8-2, 6-1 SEC) held the Razorbacks (5-5, 2-4) to 249 yards in its 13-10 win in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Tigers forced and recovered an Arkansas fumble on the Razorbacks’ final drive with 1:19 left to clinch the win.
Arkansas attempted to rally in the fourth quarter behind third-string quarterback Cade Fortin. He entered in the third quarter to replace an ineffective Malik Hornsby and threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Matt Landers with 13:12 left to pull Arkansas within three.
(10) ALABAMA 30, (11) MISSISSIPPI 24: Bryce Young threw three touchdowns passes and the Crimson Tide (8-2, 5-2 SEC) scored on four consecutive possessions spanning the second and third quarters, rallying to beat the Rebels (8-2, 4-2) in Oxford, Mississippi.
Will Reichard kicked field goals of 23 and 49 yards in the fourth quarter to snap a 24-all tie. Alabama secured the win by forcing an incomplete pass into the Crimson Tide end zone in the final minute to extend its seven-game winning streak over the Rebels.
Young finished 21 of 33 for 209 yards, including touchdown throws to Jermaine Burton, Cameron Latu and Ja’Courey Brooks.
(12) CLEMSON 31, LOUISVILLE 16: DJ Uiagalelei threw for a touchdown and ran for another and Will Shipley hurdled Louisville’s M.J. Griffin on the way for a 25-yard score as the Tigers (9-1, 7-0 ACC) won their 39th straight at home, beating the Cardinals (6-4, 3-4).
The Tigers had wrapped up the ACC Atlantic Division — and its spot in the league title game next month – a week ago before their demoralizing, 35-14 loss at No. 20 Notre Dame.
But Uiagalelei and the Clemson defense got back on track to improve to 8-0 all-time over Louisville. The Cardinals, who came in with a four-game win streak, played the second half without standout quarterback Malik Cunningham, who was hurt on the last play of the second quarter.
(14) PENN STATE 30, MARYLAND 0: Nick Singleton scored two touchdowns and ran for 113 of his 122 yards in the first half and the defense of the Nittany Lions (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten) smothered the Terrapins (6-4, 3-4) in State College, Pennsyvlania.
Tight end Brenton Strange caught a touchdown pass and Jake Pinegar kicked three field goals for the Nittany Lions, who beat Maryland for the seventh time in nine games since the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014.
(22) UCF 38, (16) TULANE: John Rhys Plumlee accounted for 308 yards and three touchdowns, and the Knights (8-2, 5-1 AAC) took over first place in the conference with a victory over the Green Wave (8-2, 5-1) in New Orleans.
BOSTON COLLEGE 21, (17) NORTH CAROLINA STATE 20: Emmett Morehead threw a 2-yard pass to Joseph Griffin Jr. with 14 seconds left and the Eagles (3-7, 2-5 ACC) rallied past the Wolfpack (7-3, 3-3) in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Eagles won with a 12-play, 69-yard drive. A pass interference penalty on fourth down with 18 seconds left gave Boston College another chance.
UCONN 36, (19) LIBERTY 33: Zion Turner threw a 30-yard scoring pass to Kevens Clercius late in the fourth quarter to lead the Huskies (6-5) to a win over the Flames (8-2) in East Hartford, Connecticut.
With the win, the Huskies (6-5) are bowl-eligible under first-year coach Jim Mora after winning only once last season.
(20) NOTRE DAME 35, NAVY 32: Braden Lenzy reached around a defender with both arms to make a spectacular touchdown catch, one of four TD passes by Drew Pyne before halftime as the Irish (7-3) beat the Midshipmen (3-7) in Baltimore.
PURDUE 31, (21) ILLINOIS 21: Aidan O’Connell passed for 237 yards and three scores, two to Payne Durham, and the Boilermakers (6-4, 4-3 Big Ten) beat the Illini (7-3, 4-3) in Champaign, Illinois to turn the Big Ten West race into a muddled mess.
(23) KANSAS STATE 31, BAYLOR 3: Will Howard threw for three touchdowns after Adrian Martinez exited with an injury, and the Wildcats (7-3, 5-2) buoyed their conference title hopes with a rout of the Bears (6-4, 4-3) in Waco, Texas.
