Kora Shriners in Lewiston has been celebrating several significant anniversary dates during 2022.

This year marks the 130th anniversary of the founding of Kora Shriners, the 150th anniversary of parent organization Shriners International,  and 100 years of the beginning of Shriners Hospitals for Children, according to a news release from John R. Knox, past potentate and Kora Shriners recorder.

The Shriner Statue, created from a photograph depicting a Shriner carrying a young child, has become a worldwide symbol of what Shriners do to help children with orthopedic conditions and burn injuries.

Kora Shriners plan to dedicate a reproduction of that statue at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at its 11 Sabattus St. location. The public, local and state officials, and representatives from several Masonic organizations are invited to attend the ceremony. Bobbi Jo Wright, the young girl depicted in the statue, will be Kora’s special guest at the event.

Kora has been conducting special fundraising efforts during the year to bring this project to reality. Additional efforts will continue into 2023 to create a space dedicated to present and past members, with engraved pavers surrounding the base of the statue.
